Services

The Somesville Library is an institution with a long history, but with a sharp eye on the future.
We are traditional and largely unchanged since our inception, with a card catalog and a librarian who knows your name and can offer personalized recommendations.

At the same time, we are constantly adding to our stimulating collection of current literature, including many books on the New York Times best-seller list, current non-fiction, biographies and books about Maine or by Maine authors. We provide reference services and help locating out-of-print or specially sought-after titles.

Children's services
Our children’s room is a bright, cozy space with a million dollar view. It is one of the best spots on the Island to curl up with a book or explore games, puzzles, and toys. Children’s programming ranges from storytellers to environmental programs.
Technology
We offer free high-speed Internet anywhere in the building, plus outside on the lawn and in the parking area. A desktop computer and two printers are available for public use, along with a Lightning / USB charging station for phones and tablets.
Our collections

Children's books
We invite young children and explore our picture books, organized by subject and front-facing for easy use by little ones. We also offer books for beginning, developing, and young adult readers.

Adult collection
Our adult collection includes a range of current fiction, non-fiction and biography. We constantly add new materials to our collections, and welcome suggestions and donations from our patrons.

Maine collection
We are proud of our growing collection of books about Maine and/or by Maine authors, from historical nonfiction to whodunnits. The library itself oozes history, and so does our Maine collection.

Year-round book sale
It's true: the Somesville Library Association has used books for sale all year long.

Come check out our sale shelves in the cozy rear room and pick a great new read. How much does each book cost? You decide!
